Good afternoon,
I’m just dropping a line to let you know how our day was here on campus. While there was a palpable respect for the seriousness of the situation, I was very happy to see your kids and be able to check in with many of them about what they are thinking and feeling.
We started the day with an US meeting in the gym and then students moved into either Advisory or Affinity spaces. During our class meeting the adults took some time to reflect back to students some of what we were hearing from them, hoping to validate their feelings and reassure them of our care and concern for their safety and well being.
As we transitioned into our regularly scheduled school day, we know that for some students that brought relief, while for others the idea of “normalcy” remained elusive or even impossible. We are confident that our faculty and staff will continue striving to support all of our students in the days ahead, regardless of their needs.
I know that some have questions about how next week will look in terms of assessments and our scheduling timeline. Please know that the Upper School team will be working hard in the coming days to ensure that all of that is worked out. Our primary concern today and tomorrow is in supporting our students and finding ways to help them feel good about being back at school.
As always, I’m here if you want to reach out.
Best,
Emily
