Dear 11th Grade Families,
The school year is really moving along as we’ve almost reached PAW and Spring Break. With that in mind, I’d like share a few updates as we look ahead to the spring:
Performance and Assessments Week (PAW) will be held next week, from Monday (3/4) to Thursday, with Friday being used for makeups. This link PAW Parameters contains detailed information about the week, and feel free to get in touch with me with any questions you may have.
I spoke with the Juniors on Tuesday about some updates and changes to our scheduling process. To start, we are beginning the process later this year so that teachers have a full three quarters to assess students’ performance and growth, and on a more philosophical level, starting the process later has helped us maintain a greater focus on the present rather than looking ahead to the next school year as invariably happens when scheduling begins.
In order to give you all of the relevant information pertaining to the scheduling process, we will be having Curriculum Night on Tuesday, April 2 (more details on that to come). In the meantime, students will be having scheduling conversations with their advisors from March 27 to April 17, the date at which course request forms are due. As an additional change to our process, placement decisions by departments will be made after students make their course requests, again to give teachers more time to have a fuller sense of students’ performance and growth through the course of the year. These are only the broad outlines of the process, and again, I will be providing more details on Curriculum Night.
I’d also like to extend an invitation to our Spring Parent Forum on Thursday, May 2 from 8:30am-10:00am in Hajjar Auditorium. I always enjoy seeing you at these events, and my ideas for the program are already taking shape.
