Dear 10th Grade Parents and Caregivers:

With Spring Break just around the corner, our students are busy preparing for next week’s inaugural Projects and Assessments Week (PAW) and this weekend’s Twenty-Fifth Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. There was an air of focus, purpose, and excitement as I walked through the halls today; the kids have worked hard and they are ready.

By now, all students should have a solid understanding of what to expect next week. Their advisors have reviewed their schedules with them as well as the general guidelines and procedures for PAW. If your child is sick and cannot make it to school, please reach out to me and to Ro Florio (usattendance@d-e.org) and we will arrange for make-up sessions, either later in the week with their classroom teachers or on Friday, March 8th with me. Please note that all absences during PAW require a doctor’s note in order to be excused, and the expectation is that all make-ups will be complete by Friday, March 8th.

When we return from Spring Break, we will begin the scheduling process for junior year in earnest. Students will explore the Course of Study with their advisors, think critically about their ambitions for next year, have the opportunity to meet with their college counselors and with me, and submit their course requests for review by departments and chairs. We will talk with students about the whole process in greater detail during an assembly on March 27th, and then with you, their parents and guardians, at Curriculum Night on Tuesday, April 2nd. I hope to see you there!

Please also save the date for our Spring Parent Forum on Tuesday, April 30th at 8:30-10am. As always, feel free to reach out to me or your grade reps at any time if you have questions or concerns you’d like us to address. I’ll be in touch next month with reminders and a more specific rundown of the agenda.

Wishing you all a peaceful and restorative Spring Break!–
