Hello 11th Grade Families!

Well we’ve returned to school and have made it through the first week!  It was great seeing the 11th graders again and hearing about the variety of experiences they had over the summer.  Whether travelling, working, participating in academic programs, or just enjoying some much needed downtime, the students collectively seem refreshed for the school year ahead.  Of course, the work of junior year begins, and some of the 11th graders commented that many of their classes are already hitting the ground running.
We’re currently at the beginning of the drop/add period, and I’ve been communicating and meeting with 11th graders about changes to their schedules.  The period to add classes ends Wednesday, September 20, and the period to drop classes ends Friday, September 29.

The members of the College Counseling Office will lead a class meeting for the 11th graders Tuesday, September 12 during advisory to introduce them to information relevant to the beginning of the college process.

On a fun note, we’ll be going on our 11th grade class trip to New York City on Friday, September 22.  In the morning, 11th grade advisors will be leading a variety of excursions with small groups of juniors in NYC, and we’ll all reconvene for lunch as a whole grade in Central Park in the afternoon before heading back to D-E.  In our class meeting Tuesday, students ranked their top three preferences among excursions to the Natural History Museum, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Grand Central Station, the Met, the Tenement Museum with a Deli Tour, “the radical history of New York” walking tour, the USS Intrepid, and a walking tour of Central Park.  The advisors have put a great deal of work into this trip, and it should be a great time.  Given that many of you live in NYC, 11th graders can meet us at their given excursion and go home directly from Central Park, but I ask that you send me an email confirming that they will be doing so beforehand for attendance purposes.

The first week back to school can always be a little harried, but I feel that there was a really nice energy on campus this week, which bodes well for the school year ahead.

As always, please feel free to get in touch if you need anything, and have a wonderful weekend.

All the Best,
Brian
