Dear Junior (Class of 2024) Parents/Guardians,
The College Counseling Team met last week to introduce the Class of 2024 to SCOIR, our online resource, which serves as a valuable tool to help you and your student navigate the college selection and application process. Your children were given an overview SCOIR, invited to establish their individual account, and encouraged to begin familiarizing themselves with its many features. We have asked each junior to sign up for a brief introductory meeting with their college counselor during the first two weeks of January.
We will provide you parental access to their account during the Junior Parent College Orientation. As a parent, you will be able to view their profiles, see their college list, conduct your own college searches, and suggest colleges for your child to consider. SCOIR also provides parents with financial tools so that you can get a better sense of the cost of attendance at various colleges during the selection process.
In addition, we require your children to complete the Virtual Individual Profile, a survey we have created to get to know them better and to inform our ongoing work with them. They have been given access to this survey through their SCOIR account. They were instructed to take their time to complete this survey thoroughly and with intentionality by February 1. They will need to complete this important step in order to schedule their first, full period, individual meeting with their college counselor!
The Junior Parent College Orientation will be on Thursday, January 12h, at 7 pm in Hajjar Auditorium. We will send you a reminder about this event early in the New Year. We warmly invite you to attend this event in person so that we can better address any questions you may have, and to provide you an opportunity to learn how we will partner in our support of your child’s college process. As we’ll have ongoing meetings with your student, we thought it would be helpful to focus solely on parents for this event, so there is no need for members of the Class of 2024 to attend.
The CCO is hosting our second College Roundtable of the 2022-2023 academic year on Thursday, January 19th from 4-5 pm. Please know that this event will be virtual and we will send the Zoom link with a reminder in early January. All Upper School parents are warmly invited to attend. While there is no planned agenda, please know that your questions will drive the conversation during this event.
As promised, we have also arranged for practice testing opportunities for both the SAT & ACT. Please be on the lookout for registration information in early January. These opportunities will be fully digital and free of charge.
We encourage you to reach out to your child’s college counselor if you have any questions or concerns and we look forward to partnering with you throughout the remainder of your child’s high school journey!
