11/08/22 From Brian Merry, On School Culture & Looking Ahead

Published: 11/08/2022

Hello 10th Grade Families!

I’d like to start off by thanking those of you who attended our Parents Forum Tuesday night, both in-person and virtually.  It was wonderful to meet you, and I truly enjoyed our conversation about the adolescent brain and your children’s development. I appreciated your thoughtful insights, and you’ve given me some great ideas on ways we can work together in supporting your children the next three years.

As Kim and I briefly mentioned Tuesday night, we’re beginning to have campus-wide conversations about our school culture as we emerge from the pandemic period.  With that in mind, we had a 10th grade class meeting yesterday dedicated to beginning this dialogue.  Students worked in advisory groups and created JamBoards sharing their thoughts on various aspects of our campus culture, and then reported their main takeaways to the entire grade.  The 10th grade advisors and I were both impressed by the thoughtfulness with which the students approached these discussions.

And finally, we had a class meeting this morning led by the College Counseling Office announcing the counselors each student will be paired with throughout their search and application process.  Kudos to the College Counselors for adding some excitement to the rollout process!

Again, it was such a pleasure meeting so many of you earlier this week, and as always, please feel free to get in touch if you ever need anything.

Warmly,

Brian Merry
