Greetings Upper School Families,

Well it seems that fall has truly set in around campus. The cooler mornings and schedule certainly attest to that. I hope that everyone enjoyed their time on campus for Back-to-School-Night. It was genuinely wonderful and heartwarming to have our families back in the classrooms and filling the hallways.

October will be a busy month with lots going on in the classroom, in our community spaces, and on the athletic fields. Please be sure to review the Year-at-a-Glance for this month so that you don’t miss an opportunity. Our most exciting event, by far, is our annual Spirit Week. Please see the note below from Debbie Murphy, the Director of Student Activities.

From Debbie Murphy, Director of Student Activities & Community Service:

D-E Spirit Week 2022 starts on Monday, October 17. It’s an all-school fun-filled week of community connection including games, competitions, and D-E pride. This year, our community focus for this week will be on the people of Puerto Rico who have been impacted recently by Hurricane Fiona. Our Spirit Week is all about D-E and all the ways that we can “make it better.” Here’s a preview of the week:

D-E’s Homecoming Dance is happening on Thursday, November 3 from 7:00 – 11:00 pm. This year, our dance will be off-campus. The venue is SPACE, a beautiful space (pun-intended!) in Englewood, NJ and the dance is open to all grades in the Upper School! Tickets go on sale starting Tuesday. It will be a special D-E celebration.

On Parent Forums:

At the end of the month, we’ll begin our series of Parent Forums. In the coming weeks, you’ll hear more directly from your student’s Dean about what to expect at the Forum. Please note that Forums for 10th-12th graders will take place in the evening while the Forum for 9th grade families will be in the morning. All forums are held in person but we will provide a zoom link for those who can’t make it. The zoom link will give families the opportunity to listen to the event but will not provide the opportunity for those folks to ask questions or otherwise engage. That said please mark your calendars for the following dates:

12th Grade: October 26th at 7:00 pm

11th Grade: October 27th at 7:00 pm

10th Grade: November 1st at 7:00 pm

9th Grade: November 10th at 8:30 am

We look forward to seeing you all on campus again soon.

Best,

Kim Lalli
Interim Upper School Principal
